The research in the University is largely supported by ICAR, New Delhi, Govt of Rajasthan and Private sectors. There are seven research stations encompassing three agro-climatic zones under the administrative control of Directorate of Research, SKNAU, Jobner. These include Rajasthan Agricultural Research Institute (RARI) at Durgapura, Jaipur, two Agricultural Research Stations located at Navgaon (Alwar) and Fatehpur-Shekhawati (Sikar) and four Agricultural Research Sub-Stations at Tabiji (Ajmer), Kumher (Bharatpur), Gonera - Kotputli (Jaipur) and Diggi (Tonk). Students enrolled for Ph.D. at SKN College of Agriculture, Jobner & RARI (Jaipur) are also contributing. The major research areas of the University are as follows.

  • Development of climate resilient varieties of wheat, barley, pearl millet, groundnut, cluster bean, chickpea, rapeseed and mustard, seed spices, vegetables, onion and garlic etc.
  • Research on arid fruits, floriculture, cropping systems, integrated nutrient management including organic farming and nutrient recycling.
  • White grub management, pesticide residue research, biological pest control and weed control.
  • Study on physiology of major fruit/ crops for development of resistant genotypes under abiotic stresses.
  • Reclamation and management of problematic soils and conservation agriculture.
  • Agro-forestry and other farming systems, in situ moisture conservation.
  • Study to enhance productivity of agricultural production system per unit of land, water, energy and other critical inputs.
  • Diversification of the farm production systems with better storage and processing technologies for domestic food & nutritional security and increased export of farm produce/product,
  • Sustainable management and equitable use of natural resources such as land, water and biodiversity, especially in the context of climate change.
  • Bio-security and crop health management for higher yields and improved food quality.

Highlights of extension education activities-

(Including Number of KVKs, Training)
The Directorate of Extension Education in Sri Karan Narendra Agriculture University, Jobner was established on 13th November 2013 to promote agricultural development in the state through efficient transfer of technology by providing trainings, advisories & farm informations to the farmers & professional extension personnel of line departments. The jurisdiction of this Directorate is stretched in three major Agro climatic zones (IIa Transitional Plain of Inland Drainage, IIIa Semi-Arid Eastern Plain and IIIb Flood prone eastern Plains) through 11 KVKs in eight districts namely Sikar, Jaipur, Ajmer, Dausa, Alwar, Bharatpur, Dholpur and Tonk. Through its two components ATIC and Extension wing, the directorate aims at ‘Reaching the Unreached’ for livelihood security, improved quality life, sustainability of agriculture & risk prone farmers and social equality & inclusive growth.

  • The Directorate of Extension Education with its 11 jurisdictional KVKs namely KVK, Ajmer, KVK, Navgaon, KVK, Bharatpur, KVK, Dholpur, KVK, Dausa, KVK, Fatehpur (Sikar-I), KVK, Arnia (Sikar-II), KVK, Kotputli, KVK, Chomu, KVK, Banasthali and KVK, Bansur are involved in dissemination of technology to farmers and stakeholders with major emphasis on following extension activities like demonstrations, trainings, awareness programmes, farmers-scientist interactions, exhibition, farmers’ fairs, field days, farmer’s excursion tours.
  • Farmers training: To improve farmers’ knowledge, attitude and sowing skills are made that their existing levels are improved by way of conducting lectures, group discussions, question answer session and training evaluations, likewise to improve their skills they are given opportunity to practice new techniques to be used in farming. During 2021-22 all KVKs including DEE organized 360 different on campus, off campus, skill and vocational trainings.
  • Demonstration: To show the worth of new technology the demonstrations are conducted on the farmers’ field with the help of scientists so that the potential of newly developed technologies could be shown to the farmers. The operations are carried out in their presence so that they could also participate in various steps of operations because the principle of learning is at work-seeing believes and doing is learning. The Krishi Vigyan Kendras have conducted FLD/CFLD on oilseed, pulses, cereals, vegetables and spices in 985.44 ha. area on 2308 farmers field. KVKs have also conducted 350 Front Line Demonstrations on livestock during the year 2021-22.
  • Exhibition and Farmers’ Fair: These are the extension method to bring/create mass awareness among the farmers about any new practice or innovations/technologies through which they happen to know initially major activities about which their attention is focused for gathering further useful technical details of new technologies. During 2021-22 The Directorate of Extension Education organized 3 days national Agri Expo-2022 (Kisan Mela) at SKNAU, Jobner in which more than 9000 farmers marked their presence.
  • Field days: Field days are organized to show the worth of new technology through result demonstration of improved verities and other technologies carried out on the selected farmers’ field where other farmers’ of the nearby villages attend and witness the results of new technologies. Krishi Vigyan Kendras have organized 60 Field Days on Oilseeds, Pulses, Spices and livestock in which 1886 farmers participated actively during 2021-22.
  • Other activities: Film show, radio/TV talk, diagnostic team visits also helps to disseminate the technology.

Strength of the University (Including 5 important achievements):

The University offers teaching, research and extension activities which are most appropriate to the agrarian needs of the state. The University is situated in semi-arid agro-climatic zone, hence, provides the best opportunity to the students to familiarize them with the conditions and requirements of the region, which is necessary for the upcoming generation of the agricultural professional and directly affect the growth and development of not only the state rural economy but also that of the nation as the future. Green Revolution has to come from grey areas of the rainfed, arid and semi-arid areas.

  • The University is imparting education in the faculty of agriculture, agri-business management and dairy science and technology through its 13 constituent colleges and 20 affiliated colleges situated in different locations under the jurisdiction area of the University. The PG programme in agriculture is running at SKN College of Agriculture, Jobner, which is a premier teaching institute established in 1947 and Rajasthan Agricultural Research Institute, Durgapura (Jaipur).
  • Each district under the jurisdiction of the University is served either by KVK and/or by ARS/ARSS, hence, the research and/or extension activities, undertaken by them pertaining to their agro-climatic conditions and thus complement to the development of the region.
  • The University has a network of 07 Agricultural Research Stations/Sub-stations and 08 Krishi Vigyan Kendras and eleven Agri-colleges and one Agri-business management college and one Dairy Science and Technology college.
  • There is sufficient faculty that includes 52 Professors, 27 Associate Professors, 5 Senior Scientist cum Head, 106 Assistant Professors and 15 Subject Matter Specialists posted at various units of the University.
