Vision:
OUAT is envisioned to be a globally recognised and locally relevant farm university providing leading-edge education, research, extension and outreach in agriculture & allied sciences.

  • To meet the local problems and diversity in socio-economic ethnicity, the programme and policies will be prioritized with special drive on backward areas and tribal agriculture.

Mission:
The University has aspiration to intensify various activities for producing skilled human resources with knowledge and expertise, develop relevant technology and provide appropriate services to the farming community. The activities are to be built up together by the staff and students in every part of the University to ensure continuance of the journey with great vigour, centering around the original commitment.

The University imparts following degree/ diploma programmes through 10 constituent colleges, one Centre for Post Graduate Studies and 10 Agro-Polytechnic Centers.

UG programs: B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture, B.Sc. (Hons.) Horticulture, B. V. Sc. & A. H., B.Tech. (Agril. Engg), B. F. Sc., B.Sc. (Hons.) Community Sc., B.Sc. (Hons.) Forestry, +2 Science & +3 Science;

Post-graduate : M.Sc. (Ag.) in 16 disciplines, M.V.Sc. in 16 disciplines, M.Tech (Agril. Engg.) in 3 disciplines, M.F.Sc. in 1 discipline, M.Sc. (Community Sc.) in 1 discipline, M.Sc. (Forestry) in 5 disciplines, M.Sc. in 7 disciplines, M C A (Master in Computer Application), M.Sc. (Bio-informatics) and MBA (Agri Business Management)

Major Area of Research

  • Removal of yield barriers for important cereals, pulses, oilseeds, vegetables, fruits and flower crops.
  • Undertake breeding program for development of high yielding varieties of different crops.
  • In situ and ex-situ conservation of cultivars and germplasm.
  • Carry out basic and applied research in rainfed agriculture.
  • Technology generation on integrated management of insect, disease and nematode
  • Design and develop farm implements and machineries for various field operations.
  • Generation of technology relating to animal science and pisciculture.
  • Conduct research on value addition and post harvest management.

Highlights of Extension Education Activities – (Including Number of KVKs, Training Programmes/ Certificate Courses, etc.):

There are 31 Krishi Vigyan Kendras operating under the University, spread over in 28 districts of Odisha.

During 2020-21, the KVKs have imparted training to 37,792 farmers/farm women, 6305 no. of rural youths and 2854 no. of grassroot level extension functionaries. Besides, 263 nos. of On-farm testing and 553 no. of frontline demonstrations have been conducted by KVKs during 2020-21.

Strength of the University (Including 5 important achievements):

OUAT has always emphasized on quality education, research and extension programme. Some of the achievements of OUAT are as follows:

  • OUAT has been ranked 20th position at All India level by ICAR ranking 2019
  • The University bagged the prestigious “University of the Year Award” 2021 by the Agriculture Today Group
  • The University has so far developed 163 varieties of various crops
  • The students of the University have emerged as Champion in the 20th AGRIUNIFEST held at IGKV, Raipur during 8th to 12th February 2020
  • During 2019-20, twenty four undergraduate students have been sent to University of Nebraska, Lincoln, USA; International Rice Research Institute, the Philippines and Aqua Centre, AIT, Bangkok for international exposure

Niche Area of Excellence (Area in which University is strong):

  • Development of crop varieties suitable for cultivation in different agro-climatic zones of the state
  • Characterization of indigenous cattle, buffalo, goat and sheep breeds and their registration with ABPGR
