To strive for excellence in education, research, extension and policy support in the area of Agriculture and Allied Sciences in the country and the developing societies.

Mission:
The mission of the University is no different from the one set forth at the time of its establishment, except that its focus has now shifted to the needs and aspirations of the newly created state of Uttarakhand. In view of the current needs and the changing agricultural scenario at the state, national and international levels, and the subsequent requirements of user agencies and stakeholders the education, research and extension programmes have been reoriented. The University aims at reaching the remotest area of its jurisdiction in order to cater to the needs of those requiring its services, and desiring participation in its programmes. The University is committed to playing a significant role in the socio-economic up-liftment of the rural masses of Uttarakhand.

Major Area of Research :

  • Fundamental and applied research activities in different disciplines of Agriculture and allied Sciences, Science & Technology and Social Sciences.
  • Development of new varieties and production of nucleus, breeder, foundation and certified seeds & planting material of different crops viz. cereals, pulses, oilseeds, sugarcane, forage crops, green manure crops, vegetables, sub-tropical and temperate fruit crops, ornamentals plants, medicinal and aromatic plants, agro-forestry plants, mushroom and fisheries and development of package and practices.
  • Need based cutting-edge research in the areas of Organic Farming, Hill Agriculture, Soil and Water Conservation, Climate Smart Agriculture, Robotics, ICTs, Artificial Intelligence and big data, Food processing & bio-fortification, Bio-products and Agriculture Engg.

Strength of the University (Including 5 important achievements) :

  • University has the largest campus and farm land area, owned by any university in Asia and second largest in the world.
  • THREE TIME RECEPIENT OF BEST FARM UNIVERSITY AWARD OF ICAR, GBPUAT IS KNOWN FOR QUALITYAGRICULTURE EDUCATION AND RESEARCH.
  • The University has over 4000 students in 8 constituent colleges with 59 departments, 14 undergraduate programmes, 58 postgraduate programmes and 63 Ph.D. programmes with excellent on-campus facilities for research.
  • Leader in FOOD GRAIN RESEARCH and SEED supply of rice, wheat, pulses and oil seed
  • Every year produces breeder seed, foundation seed and certified seed on large scale for the farmers.
  • National Kisan Mela organised twice a year in March and October, has average foot fall of ca. 30000 and large number of farmers have been coming year after year for buying seeds.
  • The University contributed significantly for overall agricultural development of the country since 1960 by developing 316 crop varieties of cereals, pulses, oilseeds, fruits, vegetables, flowers, trees, medicinal and aromatic plants, spices and fibre crops. The 35 varieties of Pantnagar have been declared as Landmark Varieties by ICAR due to their immense role in increasing foodgrain production for decades.
