Highlights of Extension Education Activities –
- Dr. YSRHU is concentrating in regular transfer of technologies through four Krishi Vigyan Kendras, nineteen Horticultural Research Stations, four Colleges of Horticulture, Four Horticultural Polytechnics, four affiliated colleges of Horticulture and eleven affiliated Horticultural Polytechnics to farmers, rural women and youth directly and through RBKs, Department of Horticulture and lime departments of Govt. of Andhra Pradesh.
- Extension planning involves identification of problems faced by farming communities preparing action plans through SAC, Pre –ZREAC, ZREAC, SLTP and Annual Action Plan Meetings.
- The technologies developed by the SAUs and the ICAR institutes are assessed at KVKs, upscaled to FLDs – OFTs and popularised through field days, village adoption programmes, training programmes, print & electronic media and e-extension.
Strength of the University (Including 5 important achievements)
- State Horticultural University, second of its kind in the country.
- University is functioning with 42 institutes (8 Colleges of Horticulture, 11 Horticultural Polytechnics, 19 Horticultural Research Stations and 4 Krishi Vigyan Kendras) located in all 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh, besides 10 ICAR-AICRP centres in the university.
- Dr. YSRHU has released 27 varieties / hybrids in Horticultural crops and 13 varieties / hybrids released were notified by Central variety Release Committee at National level vide Gazette No.1369, dt: 7 April, 2021of Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India
- Existence of State of Art Facilities viz., Centre of Excellence for protected Cultivation, Centre of Excellence for Orchids, Screen House for Virus Indexing, bio-Fertilizer Production Units, Bio-control Labs, Post Harvest Technology Research station.
- Full fledged extension services through all 42 institutes under the university and existence of Farmers Advisory Cell, plant Protection Advisory Cell, University Museum, Farmers Awareness Centre, Electronic Wing, Community Radio Station, Horticulture Skill Training Centre and Horti business Incubation Centre.
- Well qualified faculty and excellent infrastructure facilities in all institutes under Dr. YSRHU
- KVK, Venkataramannagudem received prestigious ICAR award “Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Krishi Vigyan Rashtriya Protsahan Puraskar – 2019 at National Level.
- Smt. T. Ramana, tribal women farmer under the guidance of Dr YSRHU received ICAR award “Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Anthyodaya Krishi Puraskar-2019” at zonal level for her excellent contribution towards IFS model adoption.
- Horticulture Research Station, Chintapalli received “ICAR-Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Award-2019” for outstanding research in tribal farming systems in collaboration with ICAR-IISR.
- Dr. YSR Horticultural University received “Telugu Book of Records-2018”.
- Dr. YSR Horticultural University received “CHAI-Institutional Fellow-2018”
- Dr. YSR Horticultural University received “Best Extension Education Institute Award-2021” at National level under Agri Extension Awards 2021 from Agriculture Today group.
