The West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences was established on 2 January 1995 through bifurcation from Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya 

The university functions through 17 departments in the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal sciences,

The Faculty of Dairy Technology has 4 departments viz. and Dairy Technology, a new department Dairy Economics, Statistics and Marketing has been proposed. The university has taken up lot of projects especially in the Faculty of Fishery Sciences seeking international collaboration through the World Bank.
