Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, was established in June 1971. It has 10 constituent colleges and two affiliated colleges. The university has released 3 hybrids in rice, 10 in millets, 2 in pulses, 2 in cotton, 1 in oilseeds, 2 in coconut, 2 in fruits and 1 in vegetables. To reduce the use of chemical pesticides and insecticides the University has taken-up research on developing bio-pesticides and bio-control agents. Transfer of technology programme is taken up by 5 Krishi Vigyan Kendras, 3 Regional Research Stations and 5 Plant Clinic Centres. The institute was awarded the Best Institution Award 1998 by the ICAR. The Board of Studies is responsible for review and modification of the curricula and syllabi periodically in the respective faculties namely Agriculture, Horticulture, Agricultural Engineering, forestry and Home Science. Under Commercial Agriculture programme, the students are imparted training in various skills through 21 courses in Agriculture Faculty alone. |
