PROFILE

Tamil Nadu Fisheries University (TNFU) is a State funded, unitary professional Fisheries University in India imparting education, research and training to enhance fish production and utilization by following the State Agricultural University (SAU) pattern and syllabi.

RESEARCH

Research activities in various fields of fisheries are operated at the three Colleges/Institutes and five Research Centres. Peripheral research centres have been established forunder taking research activities in specific fields like ornamental fishculture, recirculatary aquaculture system, tilapia farming, fresh water aquaculture, marine finfish culture, and shrimp brood development. The University has established state of art laboratory facilities for Sea food Safety and Quality Assurance, Aquaculture, Fisheries Biotechnology and Aquatic Animal Health and Environment Management apart from 40 years old Library and Fisheries Museum. Currently the University operates externally funded projects to the tune of Rs. 19.35cr.

EXTENSION

Extension activities and outreach programmes are undertaken at the Colleges/Institutes and five Research Centres of the University. The various extension activities include conduct of certificate courses, skill development programmes, vocational training programmes, participation in exhibitions, demonstrations, farm advisory services and bringing out extension publications for promoting fisheries.
