Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University was established through an Act of A.P. Legislature (Act No. 18 of 2005) with three faculties of Veterinary Science, Fishery Science and Dairy Science and started functioning from ANGRAU campus from 15.7.2005 and independently with Tirupati as headquarters from 01.04.2006. The holy town, Tirupati is located at 550 km south of Hyderabad, 145 km north of Chennai and 248 km east of Bangalore. The University administrative office is at about 15 km from the Renigunta airport and 6 km from Tirupati Railway Station.

Mandate of the University

     The objectives of the University among others are to impart education in different branches of Veterinary, Dairy and Fishery Sciences, to undertake the extension of such sciences to the rural people of the State of Andhra Pradesh, to promote research in production and post-harvest technology including processing and marketing in Veterinary, Dairy and Fishery Sciences.

Research : Salient achievements in research include in situ conservation of Ongole and Punganur breeds of cattle, complete feed technology using crop residues, technology for environment friendly disposal of poultry litter, vaccine against Blue tongue disease of sheep, Development of superior germplasm such as Rajasri, a dual purpose colour bird that is suitable for backyard poultry , developed ILR90 Jubilee a poultry layer with higher FCR, evolved two synthetic broiler rabbit breeds, APAU Fawn and APAU Black, electron microscopy, ornamental fish culture and pearl culture, standardized the technology for fish seed production from Magur (Clarious batracus) and Channa striatus (murrel). 6 research projects under RKVY and 17 externally funded research projects are in different stages of implementation.

Extension : The University has two Krishi Vigyan Kendras, well developed Extension Education Departments in all its constituent colleges besides of a net work of research stations spread all over the state for extension activities.
