College of Agriculture, Kota
A new College of Agriculture, Kota was established in April 2018. It is offering B. Sc. (Hon.) Agriculture, with intake capacity of 60 seats (45 normal and 15 payment seats); M. Sc. (Ag.) in the discipline of Agronomy (5 seats), Genetics & Plant breeding (5 seats), Plant Pathology (4 seats), Soil Science & Agric. Chemistry (4 seats), Entomology (4 seats) and Horticulture (4 seats); with Ph.D. programme in Agronomy, and Genetics & Plant Breeding, with intake of 2 seats in each discipline.

Sultanpur Farm, Kota

The Government of Rajasthan handed over the Seed Production Farm, Sultanpur of Rajasthan State Seed corporation (on lease of 5 years) to Agriculture University, Kota in May 2018. This farm has 21.47 ha land, used for the breeder seed-production programme of major kharif and rabi crops, mainly soya bean, urdbean, wheat, mustard and coriander.

Two new Seed Hubs on Oilseed Crops (Soybean and Mustard)

The ICAR’s is Indian Institute of Oilseeds Research has sanctioned two new seed hubs on oilseed crops (Mustard and Soybean) to Agriculture University, Kota, amounting Rs 150 lakhs each.
 

Celebration of Agricultural University, Convocations

2nd Convocation
Two convocations of Agricultural University, Kota were held on 26 Sep. 2018 under the chairmanship of Dr Prabhu Lal Saini, State Agric. Minister, Government of Rajasthan Dr A. K. Shrivastava, Chairman, ASRB, New Delhi was the guest. Total 111 degrees were awarded to the pass-out students of Undergraduate and Post-graduate (53 students in UG Agriculture Honours, 34 students in UG Horticulture, 9 students in UG Forestry and 15 students in M.Sc. Horticulture). They received degrees from AU, Kota.

The sixth foundation day of the university was celebrated on 14 Sep. 2018 under the chairmanship of Dr G. L. Keshwa, VC, Agriculture University, Kota. Prof. J. P. Singhal, former VC of Rajasthan University was the chief guest.
 

Technologies Included in Package of Practices of Zone V of Rajasthan

During 2018, total 25 recommendations for kharif and rabi crops were identified and included in the package of practices for Zone V. The institute developed varieties of rajamash (Kota Rajamash 1) and coriander (Pratap Raj Dhania 1), and recommended two varieties of sugarcane (Karan 4 and Karan 12).

CIMMYT training-cum-workshop

CIMMYT training
A CIMMYT training-cum-workshop on “Quantitative farming systems R statistical computing software” was organized for western India (Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra) at Agricultural Research Station, Kota during 5-7 Sep. 2018. The main objectives of the workshop was doubling the farmer’s income through adoption of different integrated farming systems.

All KVKs of Agriculture University, Kota celebrated National Women Farmers’ day on 15 Oct. 2018, in which total 368 women farmers participated and shared their farming experiences.

Meeting of the second Research Council

Second Research council meeting
The second Research council meeting was held at Agricultural Research Station, Kota on 7 Aug, 2018 under the chairmanship of Prof. G. L. Keshwa, Vice-Chancellor, Agriculture University, Kota. It reviewed the research projects, seed production and other works carried out during the last 2 years at Research Stations and Seed Production Farms (ARS, Kota, ARSS, Aklera and Khanpur, and MAF, Kota).

International Soil Health meetin
The International Soil Health was celebrated on 5 Dec. 2018 at different research and extension units of Agriculture University, Kota. More than 1,000 farmers participated in it, and 5,000 soil-health cards were distributed to the farmers.

Horticultural University and ex-officio Secretary to Government of A.P. visited various ‘Titli’ cyclone-affected coconut, cashew and banana areas in Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts. These suggested ameliorative measures and distributed technical bulletins to the farmers.

Shri Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy, Minister for Agriculture, Horticulture, Sericulture and Agri- Processing, visited the fields and appreciated the efforts of the university for quick relief of the affected areas.
Mahila Kisan Diwas : Mahila Kisan Diwas was celebrated by all the Krishi Vigyan Kendras of the university on 15 Oct. 2018 by involving local MLAs, public representatives and officials from Departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Zero Budget Natural Farming, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Sericulture. The innovative and best women farmers were felicitated by the dignitaries. Kitchen garden kits were also distributed to the women farmers on this occasion.

 

State-level Seminar

State Level Seminar
A state level seminar on “Awareness, Motivation and Technology Transfer for Development of Bee-keeping in Andhra Pradesh” was organized from 27 to 28 October 2018 at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Venkataramannagudem. It was a part of the project ““Integrated bee-keeping development centre, Andhra Pradesh”, sponsored by National Bee Board under Mission for integrated development horticulture to Dr.Y.S.R. Horticultural University. Padmashri Dr Bibek Debroy, Chairman, Economic Advisory Council to Prime Minister, and Bee-keeping Development Committee New Delhi, participated as chief guest. Shri Chiranjiv Choudhary, (IFS), Vice-Chancellor & ex-officio Secretary to Government of A.P. Shri K. Rajeswar Rao, Adviser to EAC-PM and Member Secretary, Bee-keeping Development Committee; and Dr L. Saraswath, Executive Director, National Bee Board, New Delhi were the guests of honour, who graced the occasion. The sessions included all the scientific aspects of apiculture in Andhra Pradesh. About 300 farmers from all the districts of Andhra Pradesh, scientists and students participated in the deliberations.

Dr.Y.S.R. Horticultural University was recognized by Telugu Book of Records for significant achievements during 2018. On 26 Dec 2018 the founder president of Telugu Book of Records presented Gold medal and citation to Shri Chiranjiv Choudhary, (IFS), Vice-Chancellor & ex-officio Secretary to Government of A.P.
 
Training on Small Poultry farming
Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Venkataraman-nagudem organized a Skill Development Training Programme on “Small Poultry Farming” in coordination with Agricultural Skill Council of India and ICAR-ATARI, Hyderabad. Technical and practical sessions involving all the aspects of small-scale poultry hatching, rearing and marketing were imparted to 20 farmers.
 
Training on Bee-Keeping
The Skill Development Training Programme on “Bee-Keeping” to 20 farmers, in co-ordination with Agricultural Skill Council of India and ICAR-ATARI, Hyderabad. It was conducted at KVK, Venkataramannagudem from 5 Dec 2018 to 29 Dec 2018. Technical and practical sessions involving all the aspects of Scientific Bee-keeping and marketing skills to the participants were imparted by the experts invited from various institutions of Dr.Y.S.R. Horticultural University, ANGRAU, SBEC, Vijayarai, NGOs and private agencies.
 
Training on Poultry Farming
Seven training programs on “Poultry Farming” were conducted at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Periyavaram during 9 Dec to 18 Dec 2018, with financial support of ATMA, Nellore district. Training manual on “Kolla pempakamlo melyina yajamanya padhatulu” was released and distributed to the trainees.
 
Training on Cocoa Cultivation
The HRS, Ambajipeta organized a training programme during 20 to 22 Dec, 2018 with the financial assistance of Directorate of Cashew and Cocoa Development Board, Kochi on “Latest production, protection technologies and marketing strategies of cocoa cultivation”. About 220 farmers participated in the training programme.
 
World Soil Day

World Soil Day

Krishi Vigyan Kendras, Venkataraman-nagudem, Pandirimamidi Periyavaram and Vonipenta organized the World Soil Day on 5 Dec 2018. Dr R.V.S.K Reddy, Director of Extension, participated as chief guest at the KVK, Vonipenta the addressed the gathering on importance of soil health, soil test-based fertilizer application to reduce the cost of cultivation on fertilizers. Booklets and pamphlets on soil-health management and importance of soil testing were compiled and released. About 1,000 soil-health cards prepared by the respective KVKs were distributed to the farmers on this occasion.
 

 
An awareness workshop on ‘Plant parasitic nematodes: a hidden threat to nursery industry’, organized by Horticultural Science Division, ICAR, New Delhi and ICARs – Directorate of Floriculture Research, Pune on 14 Dec 2018. Dr J. Dilip Babu, Director of Research, Dr B.V.K. Bhagawan, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head HRS, Kovvur, Dr N.B.V. Chalapathi Rao, Principal Scientist (Ent.), HRS, Ambajipeta, Shri Ch. S.Kishore Kumar, In-charge AICRP on Nematodes delivered lectures on nematode damage in horticultural crops.
Technical teams of KVK’s, Venkataramannagudem, Pandirimamidi, Vonipenta and Periyavaram conducted 77 field diagnostic visits on different Horticultural/Agricultural crops and allied disciplines like Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Home Science etc., for pest and disease incidence, and recommended suitable remedial measures.

MoU for Collaborative Programme with WSU

Pantnagar university signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Western Sydney University (WSU) of Australia on 27 Nov. 2018 at New Delhi. The MoU aims to undertake joint programmes like collaborative research activities, joint scientific and academic, exchange of academic staff for teaching and research, exchange of students, exchange of publications and other information of common interest and any other activity as mutually agreed between the two universities. The signing ceremony of MoU was held at Hotel Shangrila Eroz, Delhi, in which Dr A.P. Sharma, Registrar on behalf of Pantvarsity, and Prof. Barney Glover, VC and President, on behalf of Western Sydney University, signed the MoU. Many dignitaries from the ICAR, the ICICI foundation and other universities were present on this occasion.

The Governor of Uttarakhand, Mrs Baby Rani Maurya, visited Pantvarsity on 12 Oct. 2018. She was shown Integrated Farming Unit established at Crop Research Centre to showcase the integration of farming of small scale farmers with horticulture, animal husbandry, goat-keeping, poultry, mushroom production, beekeeping, etc. to have more income from less land.
Mrs Maurya, the Governor asked the scientists to take this model to more and more farmers, and emphasized that the scientists must rely more on real situation at farmers’ fields than on their data on paper.

Foundation Day

The Foundation Day of the university was celebrated on 17 Nov. 2018. On this occasion a foundation-day lecture was delivered by Shri Devendra Sharma, who is a famous writer, researcher, critic, columnist and author on food and agricultural policies, global trades, economics, environment, development etc. Shri Sharma delivered a thought-provoking lecture, explaining in detail about technology-politics, match fixing in agriculture, misapprehensions about increase in productivity and GST, and also about how and why agriculture in India is being starved intentionally. Dr Tej Pratap, VC, presided over the function, which was organized in university auditorium, Gandhi Hall. A large number of faculty members, post-graduate and Ph.D. students and officers as well as staff members were present, filling the hall to its capacity.
 
The Foundation Day was also marked by a Press Conference addressed by Shri Devendra Kumar and Dr Tej Pratap in the afternoon. In the evening an entertaining cultural programme was presented by the students of different colleges of the university in Gandhi Hall.

Annual Conference of National Science Congress Association

The 9th annual conference of Haridwar chapter of National Science Congress Association was organized during 13-14 Oct. 2018, in association with the Department of Biological Sciences of College of Basic Sciences and Humanities of Pantvarsity. The topic of the conference was ‘Future India: science and technology’. The chief guest of the inaugural session of the conference was the President of the Association, Dr M.K. Chakravarty; whereas the session was presided over by the Registrar of Pantvarsity, Dr A.P. Sharma. In this conference about 280 scientists and researchers participated.

Seminar on Nutrition and Health

The Department of Biochemistry of College of Basic Sciences and Humanities organized a seminar on ‘Redesigning biochemistry network for nutrition and health in post-genomic era’ on a large number of scientists and research scholars from various institutions of India participated in the seminar. Total 13 lectures were delivered and 41 research posters were presented.

A national seminar on 'The role of veterinary public health in improving food security and safety through on-health approach’ was organized by College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences of the university in collaboration with Association of Public Health Veterinarians. The inaugural session of the conference, organized on 30 Nov. 2018 in Dr Ratan Singh Auditorium, was presided over by Dr Tej Pratap, VC; whereas the chief guest of the function was Dr S.K. Garg former VC, of Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Veterinary Science University and Cattle Research Institute, Mathura. About 300 veterinarian and veterinary students participated in this seminar, which ended on 1 Dec 2018.
 

National workshop on Bio-computing

The Bioinformatics Centre of Department of Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering organized a national workshop on ‘A journey towards system biology: Biocomputing of high throughput data during 8-11 Oct. 2018. Registrar of Pantvarsity, Dr A.P. Sharma, was the chief guest in the inaugural session of this programme. The guest of honour in this session Prof. A.U. Khan was the Co-ordinator of Interdisciplinary Biotechnology Unit of Aligarh Muslim University. Total 22 scientists from different institutions participated in this workshop.
 

Achievements in research and technology

1. Registration certificate of ‘Uttara’ fowl of Pantvarsity presented by Agriculture Minister

The Union Agriculture Minister, Shri Radha Mohan Singh, presented the registration certificate of the first fowl breed of Uttarakhand, Uttara, to the poultry scientists of Pantvarsity, who developed this breed. The certificate was presented during a function organized by Indian Council of Agricultural Research at New Delhi for animal breed registration certificate on 17 Dec. 2018. This breed of Uttarakhand, fowl of distribution, developed by the scientists of College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences of Pantvarsity, has recently been registered by National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources, Karnal.

The scientists of the university have been working on this bird since the last 13 years. They selected it after visiting various geographical locations of the hills and developed it for backyard poultry production. Uttara chicken has black-coloured plumage. These birds have feathered shank, which is not present in any other indigenous breed of chicken. About 18% of birds have bunch of feathers on head (crest/crown). Broodiness is usual. The birds are more noisy and flighty. Annual egg production ranges from 125 to 160, and eggs weigh from 49.8 to 52.7 g. The cholesterol content in their meat and blood is low, which makes them suitable and desirable for heart patients. Present, a flock of 2,000 Uttara chicken is being maintained at Instructional Poultry Farm of the university.

2. Prospective technologies recentlygiven to farmers

Pantnagar University’s fair-cum-agro-industrial exhibition, Kisan Mela, was inaugurated on 5 Oct 2018 at the main campus of Pantnagar University by the then Shri Rajiv Rautela, VC, (IAS), on this occasion 104 farmers was present. On this occasion; Director Extension Education, Dr Y.P.S. Dabas; member of the Board of Management of the University, Shri Rajendra Pal Singh; and other dignitaries were present. After inaugurating the fair, Shri Rautela was taken for a round of the fair-ground by Dr Dabas and was shown Horticulture Exhibition and other stalls of the university as well as private and public sector organizations. The main inaugural ceremony of the fair was organized at Gandhi Hall of the University, where Shri Rautela presided over and addressed the farmers and other audience.
Seeds of various crops of rabi were the main attraction for the farmers in farmers’ fair. The farmers purchased seeds, planting material and literature worth more than 80 lakhs.
The 4 day fair concluded on 8 Oct. 2018. The closing and prize-distribution ceremony were also organized in Gandhi Hall, in which Registrar of the university, Dr A.P. Sharma, was the chief guest. Dr Sharma presented prizes to the winners of different competitions held during the fair and different categories of stalls put up in the fair. The stall of M/s MRF Tyres, Chennai, was awarded the Overall Best Stall in this concluding ceremony.

3. New technologies given to farmers under Farmer First project

The Farmer- First project of Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi, is under operation in Department of Agricultural Communication of the university since the last 2 years. Various activities undertaken in the project in this quarter are summarized below:
  • A camp was organized at Dogra and Jyoli villages of Bheemtal Block of NainiTal district on 10 Oct. 2018, to extend the technologies of production of different vegetables and provide high-quality seed to farmers for increasing production. In this camp, vegetable scientists provided information about mulching technology for vegetable production. Seeds of Pusa Early Bunching variety of fenugreek, Pant Haritima variety of coriander, Japanese White of radish and All Green variety of spinach, developed by Pantvarsity, were distributed to the famers.
 
 
  • Five-day training on mushroom production was held during 13-17 Nov. 2018 for the farmers of village Jyoli of NainiTal district at Mushroom Research and Training Centre of the university. The farmers were told about different aspects of mushroom production like main varieties of edible mushroom, low-cost mushroom hut preparation, method of preparing mushroom culture, span and compost etc. Total 20 farmers attended the training.

    The women farmers of Shyalikhet village of NainiTal district, selected under Farmers First project, were given 20 chicks each on 7 Dec. 2018. Total 500 chickens of ‘Uttara’ fowl, developed by the scientists of Pantvarsity, were given to the farmers. The purpose of this chick distribution was to empower women farmers and make them self-sufficient. In continuation, a training of these women farmers was also organized under this project on backyard poultry farming on 18 Dec. 2018. Poultry scientists of College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences of the university trained these farmers on different aspects of poultry farming and management. Farmers were also taken to the Instructional Poultry Farm of the university and given poultry feed packets.

4. Workshop on drip irrigation

The College of Technology of the university organized a workshop-cum-conference on ‘Drip irrigation in Uttarakhand: Present scenario and future prospects’ for the farmers of all district of the state on 5 Dec. 2018. The workshop was inaugurated by the Registrar and acting VC, Dr A.P. Sharma. The scientists of PFDC project along with the guest lecturers from CIPHET, Ludhiana, and IARI, New Delhi, discussed with farmers on various aspects of drip irrigation. Farmers also shared their experiences. About 200 farmers and technical officers of Horticulture Department from different districts of Uttarakhand participated in this workshop.

5. Workshop by Community Radio Service

The Community Radio Service of the university organized a one-day workshop on ‘Role of community radio in agriculture and rural development’ on 16 Dec 2018. Dr Tej Partap, VC, inaugurated the workshop. In the workshop about 100 persons from more than 15 villages, being benefited by the broadcast of Pantnagar Janvani programmes, participated and shared their views on the theme of the workshop.

Directorate of Extension Education, Kamdhenu University organized “Dairy farm women training programme” on 1 Nov. 2018 at Dhamasana, (taluka. Kalol; dist. Gandhinagar). The programme was inaugurated by Dr P.H. Vataliya, Director of Extension Education, Kamdhenu University, in the presence of Dr Falguni Thakar, Additional Director, Department of Animal Husbandry, Gujarat; Dr R.G. Shah, Associate Director of Research, Kamdhenu University, and Dr P.P. Patel, Project Officer, Kamdhenu University. Total 150 dairy farm women participated in the training programme.

 
Inaugural Speech
In the inaugural speech Dr P.H. Vataliya, Director of Extension Education laid emphasis on need of adoption of scientific animal husbandry practices by dairy farmers for their economic as well as social development. Dr Falguni Thakar emphasized the need to work on breed improvement, balanced feed and improved hygiene. She also encouraged dairy farm women to pursue advanced animal husbandry practices to maximize their income and become self-reliant. Dr R. G. Shah laid emphasis on important nutrient qualities of indigenous cow milk for consumer health. He also stressed on judicious savings from the proceeds of dairying.
During technical session, training lectures were given by Dr R. G. Shah, Dr S. J. Vekariya and Dr M. B. Rajput, followed by question-answer session and interaction with the dairy farm women. The training was mainly focussed on modern dairying, ration balancing, health, hygiene, artificial insemination and clean milk production, about which dairy farm women got recent technical updates.

Directorate of Extension Education, Kamdhenu University organized “Scientific Animal Husbandry Training Programme” on 12 Dec. 2018 at Juna Untarada, (taluka. Dehgam dist. Aravalli). The programme was inaugurated by Dr N. H. Kelawala, VC, Kamdhenu University in the presence of Dr P.H. Vataliya, Director of Extension Education, Kamdhenu University; Dr M. N. Patel, Senior Manager; Sabar Dairy; Dr R.G. Shah, Associate Director of Research, Kamdhenu University; Dr P.P. Patel, Project Officer, Kamdhenu University; and Shri Ghanshyambhai Patel, Sarpanchshri, Juna Untarada. Total 261 dairy farmers and farm women participated in the training programme.
In the inaugural speech Dr N. H. Kelawala, VC, said that there is no dearth of quantity of milk, what we lack is quality. Since we have earned top place in milk production globally, we need to work very hard to improve the quality of raw milk as well as milk products. the benefits of training programme to farmers. He advised dairy farmers to adopt scientific as well as organic animal husbandry practices and encouraged them to practice good hygienic methods of livestock-keeping, ensuring good quality of milk. He also laid emphasis on role of dairy farmers for development of dairy sector in Gujarat. Dr M. N. Patel advised and inspired the dairy farmers to adopt organic animal husbandry practices and emphasized the importance of clean milk production.
During technical session training lectures were given by Dr R. G. Shah, Dr S. J. Vekariya and Dr M. B. Rajput, followed by question-answer session and interaction with the dairy farm women.

It was held at Laparoscopy Unit, Department of Surgery and Radiology, Mumbai Veterinary College, Mumbai. Twenty two faculty staff and 17 PG and Ph.D. students from clinical departments actively participated in the workshop. Lectures on various topics regarding Laparoscopy and Endoscopy were delivered by faculty staff of college and service team of M/S KARL STORZ Endoscopy India Pvt. Ltd.

Taking Initiation from one health commission, ‘One Health Day’ was celebrated all over the world, every year on 3 Nov. To mark the occasion, Department of Veterinary Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, COVAS, Udgir organized one day technical seminar for field veterinarians, post graduates and graduates of medical and veterinary fraternity. Dr S. B. Barbudhhe, Principal Scientist, ICAR-NRC on Meat, presented theme paper to achieve good health and complete development for human. He deliberated the impact of emerging, re-emerging and exotic, zoonotic disease on human health. To commemorate the occasion, souvenir with articles related to One Health was also inaugurated.

The second ICAR-BSMA workshop of Veterinary Clinical subjects was held at Mumbai on 16 and 17 Nov. 2018. The chief guest of the inaugural function was Dr Shivajirao Dange, (IRS). The Guest of Honour was Dr N. H. Kelawala, VC, Kamdhenu University, Gujarat the function was presided by Prof. A. M. Paturkar, VC, MAFSU. The Chairman of the committee Dr Jit Singh and Convener Dr D. B. Patil along with other committee members Dr V. K. Gupta, Dr J. Prakash, Dr Naveen Kumar, Dr Aravinda Ghosh, Dr S. N. S. Randhawa and Dr K. L. Khurana, were present during the workshop. They discussed in detail all the aspects related to P.G. and Ph. D. syllabi with the delegates of the clinical departments from premier institutes of India. The workshop was well attended by more than 100 delegates from different institutes all over India along with representatives of state government and NGOs. The Co-ordinator of the workshop was Dr G. S. Khandekar, Associate Professor, Department of Surgery and Radiology.

  • An International conference on “Emerging Issues in Agricultural Environmental and Applied Sciences for Sustainable Development” was held during 27-29 Nov. 2018 at SHUATS, Prayagraj. Delegates from all over the country and more than 700 participants from 55 organizations attended the conference. It was organized by Agro-Environmental Development Society, Rampur and co-organized by Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences, Prayagraj.
 
 

The conference revolved around four major themes, as follows :

Celebration of World Soil Day

Celebration of World Soil Day
The World Soil Day was organized in university campus on 5 Dec. 2018 by College of Agriculture, UAHS, Shivamogga. The programme was inaugurated by Dr P Narayana Swamy, Registrar, UAHS, Shivamogga. In his inaugural speech he narrated that the world soil day is being celebrated across the globe to mark the birth anniversary of late King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand, who gave importance to conservation of soil. Dr S.K. Gali., former, Professor of Environmental Science and Dean (Forestry), UAS, Dharwad, delivered the keynote address on “Be the solution to soil pollution”, and he highlighted the pollution of soil, water and air is increasing at alarming rate and it is our great responsibility to control and minimize the pollution. On the eve of celebration, essay completions were conducted for UG and PG students and prizes were distributed.

Celebration of Krishi Mela
The university had organized a Krishi Mela during 12-15 Oct. 2018, on the theme Integrated Farming for Doubling of Income”. This was inaugurated by Dr M. Mahadevappa, Padma Bhushan Awardee and former ,VC, UAS, Dharwad, on 13 Oct 2018. This mela attracted 4-5 lakhs farmers, scientists and extension workers. On this occasion 13 best district-level farmers or farm women were honoured. During this occasion, Dr C. Vasudevappa, VC, National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM), Sonipat (Haryana), inaugurated the university sponsored AIR programme Krishi Sampada. Dr S. Rajendra Prasad, VC, UAS, Bangaluru; Dr M.K. Naik, VC, UAHS, Shivamogga; Dr Indiresh K.M.VC, UHS, Bagalkot, and other dignitaries were also present. In this mela, 225 hi-tech stalls, 100 economy stalls and 25 farm machinery stalls were erected to showcase the university technologies for the benefit of farming community.

The XXII Workshop of ICAR-AICRP on “Energy in agriculture and agrobased industries” was organized by Department of Renewable Energy, College of Agricultural Engineering, UAS, Raichur, during 10– 12 Dec. 2018 at Raichur campus. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr K.N. Kattimani, VC,UAS, Raichur and Chaired by Dr Anil Kumar Dubey, Co-ordinator, Consortium Project on Energy, and Head, Agricultural Energy and Power Division, Central Institute of Agricultural Engineering, Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh). Dr Panna Lal Singh, Principal Scientist, of Agricultural Engineering, ICAR, New Delhi co-chaired the inaugural session. Dr K.C. Pandey, Project Co-ordinator, ICAR-AICRP on Energy in Agriculture and Agro-based Industries, Co-ordinating Cell, CIAE, Bhopal presented the research highlights of the project in nut-shell for the year 2018-19. Special guest and expert Dr S. Kamaraj, ex-Professor & Head, Department of Bio-Energy, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu) briefed about the importance of Renewable energy in agriculture and agro- base industries. Dr S.K. Meti, Director of Education; Dr B.K. Desai, Director of Research; and Dr B.M. Chittapur, Director of Extension; Dr M. Veerangouda, Dean (Agric. Eng.), UAS, Raichur were present. During this the Principal Investigators of various co-operating centres across the country presented the progress report of the respective centre for the year 2018-19.
 

A Short course on "Doubling farmers" income through IFS

Officials from Development Departments of Karnataka and scientists from UAS and other agricultural universities from Maharastra, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu participated in this programme. The 10th Foundation Day of University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot was celebrated on 22 Nov. 2018. Dr J. V. Gouda, former, VC, UAS, Dharwad, inaugurated the function by lightening the lamp. Dr K. M. Indiresh, VC, presided over the function; and Members of Board of Management, UHS, Bagalkot were guests on this occasion. Dr Y. K. Kotikal, Registrar, UHS, Bagalkot, welcomed and briefed about the progress of the university Inaugural address was delivered by Dr N. Basavaraj, Director of Research, UHS, Bagalkot. He brief mentioned biodata of the chief guest. Dr J. V. Gouda, former, VC, UAS, Dharwad, delivered the foundation day address; and Dr Y. B. Patil, Board Member, UHS, Bagalkot, addressed the gathering. A few suggestions were made for the development of the university. The meritorious students who were selected for Donors Scholarship along with the donors were honoured. The teachers and the students who had won the state and national level awards in various sports, NSS and cultural events were also honoured.
