Workshops on Problem and Management of Nematode in Horticulture CropsDepartment of Plant Pathology of College of Agriculture,
Pantnagar in collaboration with the All-India Co-ordinated
Research Project on Nematodes of the ICAR, co-ordinated
by Indian Agriculture Research Institute, Pusa, organized
a workshop-cum-training programme on ‘Problem and
management of nematode in horticultural crops’. 4 July
2018 Prof. A.K. Misra, the then VC, presided and Dr R.K.
Walia, was Project co-ordinator present as special guest. In
this programme farmers and state government officials from
different districts, scientists and students were present.
College of Technology
of the university in
collaboration with North
Dakota State University,
the USA, organized a
workshop on ‘Food-
energy-water nexus’ on 14
Sep 2018. In this workshop
Dr Robert, Professor of
Botany, North Dakota State
University, Fargo, shared his research experiences with
the participants through video conferencing. Dr Achintya
Bezbaruah scientist of international fame of NDSU,
also delivered a lectures in the workshop. Scientists of
different colleges of the university too delivered lectures.
Faculty members and students of Pantvarsity participated
in the workshop. Discussions on research collaboration,
and student and faculty exchange were also held in the
workshop.
Develop of late-maturing Mango GermplasmThe horticulture scientists of
Pantvarsity were successful
in developing late-maturing
mango germplasm,
which will provide mature
mango in September.
Their germplasm will help
in developing mango
varieties that will extend the
availability of mango in the market in September also, which will
fetch more price and will increase the income of the farmer’s.
The scientists were working on late-maturing mangoes or the
last few years, and selected 5 germplasm of late-maturing and
7 germplasm of perennial mango, out of which one germplasm
PMSS-1 (Pant Mango 1) matures from last week of August to
first week of September. The quality of this mango is good, and each fruit weights 230-260 grams on an average. The research is
in the last phase and a late-maturing variety will be released soon.
Transplanting of Paddy by Machine in Limited AreaThis season, Pantvarsity
transplanted paddy
by automatic paddy
transplanter in a limited
area at NE Borlaug Crop
Research Centre. This
machine uses mat-type
seedling, for which nursery
is raised in special trays.
This transplanter has one
engine and transplants
seedlings in 8 rows. The row-to-row distance is 228 mm and
plant-to-plant distance is 145 mm. The size of the mat is
430×230×20 mm, in which seedlings are raised that become
ready to transplant in 25 days. The machine needs one driver
and one labourer, and it can transplant a field of about 1 ha in
one day. The use of this machine saves 75-80 % labour per
hectare work-hour. Puddling of the field is necessary before
using this machine. The equidistant transplanting of seedlings
enables their good growth and hence good production.
