ICAR- CIFT, Kochi A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Central Agricultural University, Imphal and the ICAR’s -Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Kochi at CAU, Lamphelpat, Imphal on 9 May, 2018. The main objective of the MoU is to strengthen the students research programme of the university in fish-processing technology, fish- quality assurance and management, fisheries micro-biology, bio-technology and sanitation, fisheries bio-chemistry, fishing technology and fisheries engineering, fish packaging, fisheries extension, economics etc.
International Yoga Day at CAU, Imphal![]() 4th International Yoga Day at CAU, Imphal
The 4th International Day of Yoga was celebrated at Central Agricultural University, Lamphelpat, Imphal (Manipur) on 21 June 2018. As a part of the programme, Shri David Singh Hijam, Yoga Instructor, gave a valuable lecture-cum-demonstration of Yoga, imparting its mental, physical and health benefits to the participants on this occasion. The programme was presided by Dr S. Basanta Singh, Director of Instruction; and Shri M.C. Jublani, Comptroller, as guest of honour. The International Yoga Day was observed to create awareness about the benefits of yoga practice, for attaining peace of life.
Deemed- to- be UniversityICAR- CENTRAL INSTITUTE OF FISHERIES EDUCATION, MUMBAIThird International Symposium on Aquaculture and Fisheries EducationTheme: Fisheries Education for Sustainable Blue Economy![]() The 3rd International Symposium on Aquaculture and Fisheries Education (ISAFE-3), a triennial event of the Asian Fisheries Society, was organized by the ICAR’s-Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Mumbai, (Maharashtra), in collaboration with Indian Fisheries Association and Asian Fisheries Society- Indian Branch at CIFE, Mumbai during 16-18 May 2018. The theme of the ISAFE-3 was “Fisheries Education for Sustainable Blue Economy”.
The Symposium was inaugurated on 16 May 2018 at the CIFE, Versova, Mumbai. The chief guest, Shri Mahadev Jankar, Minister for Animal Husbandry, Dairy and Fisheries, Government of Maharashtra was accompanied by luminaries like Padma Vibhushan Dr Anil Kakodkar, former Chairman of Atomic Energy Commission; Dr J. K. Jena, President of Asian Fisheries Society, and DDG (Fisheries Science), ICAR; Dr C. Virapat, DG, Network of Aquaculture Centres in Asia Pacific, (Thailand); and Prof. S. Kaushik, Chair Professor, European Research Area, Spain flagged off the Symposium. The inaugural function was followed by keynote address by Padma Vibhushan Dr Anil Kakodkar.
The event was attended by 260 participants, including 15 delegates from the countries such as Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Thailand, Ethiopia, France, Nigeria, Bhutan, South Korea, Nepal and Spain The symposium had 6 major technical sessions on various themes. A special session on Course Curricula in Asia-Pacific region for better job opportunities, Chaired by Dr N. S. Rathore, DDG (Agriculture Education), ICAR.
In the plenary session, various recommendations emanated from different technical sessions and deliberations were presented, discussed and finalized. Dr T. Mohapatra, Secretary, DARE & DG, ICAR, was the chief guest in the valedictory function. He highlighted the immense opportunities provided by ocean resource and the need for their utilization for societal benefit by developing entrepreneurs for tomorrow. He opined that Blue Economy must flourish, besides being sustainable, responsible and profitable. He stated that collaboration and co-ordination is the key to success. Dr J. K. Jena, Dr Gopal Krishna, Dr S. D. Tripathi and Dr C. Virapat also spoke on the occasion.

Kullu during 7-9 Apr. 2018. The scientist team of Main Maize Research Station, AAU, Godhra participated in the workshop.
