Focus on Universities: Events and AchievementsCentral UniversitiesCENTRAL AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY, IMPHAL4th Inter-Collegiate Youth FestivalThe Directorate of Instruction, organized the 4th Inter Collegiate Youth Festival, CAU, 2017 at College of Agriculture, Iroisemba, (Imphal), during 15-17 Jan. 2018. Participants from 13 constituent colleges of the university located in the NEH states participated in this festival. Shri Karam Shyam Singh, Minister, Food and Civil Supply & Revenue, Government of Manipur; from the CAU, Imphal, Prof. M. Premjit Singh, VC; Prof. C.A. Srinivasamurthy, Director of Instruction, and Prof. R.K Saha, Director of Extension Education; as well as Prof. J.M Laishram, Dean, College of Agriculture, Iroisemba, respectively, graced the dais.
Participation of CAU team at 18th All India ICAR AGRIUNIFEST, 2018The CAU, Imphal participated in the 18th All India ICAR AGRIUNIFEST, 2018, at Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University, Tirupati, during 12 - 16 Feb. 2018. A team of
22 students (boys and girls) and two officials participated in the events of Dance, Theatre and Literary activities etc.
The team consisting of Mr Sourav Debnath (COF,CAU-I, Lembucherra) and Mr Nitin Hugar (CPGS, Barapani, Meghalaya) secured 2nd position in Quiz competition. UniversitiesANAND AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY, ANANDFarmers- to- farmers Training on Technology TransferThe AAU, Anand; NCCSD, Gandhinagar; Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, the USA; ATMA jointly organized a training programme on “Farmers-to-Farmers (F2F) methods for Agriculture Extension Technology Transfer: Transferring improved practices from the model farm to beneficiary farm sites” at Anand. The function was chaired by Dr N.C. Patel, VC; Dr Brian G.Messe, International Agronomy Research Consultant, Messe Agronomics LLC, the USA; Dr Arun Patel, Director of Extension Education, AAU; and Dr R.N. Pandey, Prof. and Head, Department of Plant Pathology and Co-ordinator of the programme, Sixty progressive farmers of central Gujarat enrolled with ATMA project attended the training programme. Besides Dr Girishbhai Patel, Programme Co-ordinator, KVK, Devataj, Dr Maheshbhai Patel, Associate Extension Educationist, EEI; and Dr J. B. Patel, Associate Professor, Department of Extension Education, BACA, Anand, acted as moderator for translating Dr Brian’s lecture into Gujarati language. Dr Arun A. Patel, DEE, has welcomed the dignitaries, farmers and invited guests and gave a brief introduction about the training.
Dr Messe told that India is a fast growing economy in the developing countries and there are lot of possibilities for the growth of agriculture in India, which is possible only through the application of latest agronomic techniques of crop production. He further informed that the On Farm Trial technique for crop production and application of basic agronomic principles will help increasing the produce quality through higher productivity and production.
Dr N.C. Patel, VC, AAU, emphasized that this is an important programme that provides opportunity to interact with knowledgeable experts, and international consultants, for imparting expertise for better crop productivity. He exhorted that the Prime Minister, Government of India, is also emphasizing on doubling the income of farmers. He advised the farmers to visit the different departments and farms of the university for gathering latest technology of agriculture and allied sectors. He informed that the progressive farmers have harvested 85 kg of banana per plant by improved package of
practices, and the farmers should be in the contact of progressive farmers to adopt this technology. Further, he advised the farmers to use facilities of mobile, whatsapp, SMS, e-Kishan portal, internet etc.
to interact with scientists and gather the information of improved package of practices for higher productivity.

Mahindra Samriddhi Award to JAUThe Mahendra Samriddhi award to JAU, Junagadh was given as recognition of new innovative outcome in the field of nanotechnology. The award was conferred
by Shri Radha Mohan Singh, Minister of Agriculture, Government of India, and Shri Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra & Mahindra group, in an award ceremony at New Delhi on 6 Mar. 2018. Award was received by Dr A.R. Pathak, VC; Dr V.P. Chovatia, Director of Research; Dr A.M. Parakhia, Director of Extension Education and Dr H.P. Gajera, Associate Professor, Department of Biotechnology, JAU, Junagadh.
Best KVK of the year - Runner-up awardIn its 8th edition of award, National Best KVK of the year - Runner-up Mahindra Samriddhi Agri India Award – 2018 was conferred to the KVK,
Nana Kandhasar. Shri Radha Mohan Singh, Minister of Agriculture, Government of India and Shri Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra & Mahindra group presented the award in a ceremony at New Delhi on 6 Mar.
2018. Award was received by Dr A.R. Pathak, VC; Dr Mahendra Singh Chandawat, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK, Nana Kandhasar; Dr A.M. Parakhia, Director Extension Education, Dr V.P. Chovatia,
Director Research. KVK, Nana Khandhasar promoted the use of biopesticides for cost-effective management of pests and diseases, especially the use of sawaj (Beauveria bassiana) for the control of
pink bollworm in cotton crop and use of Trichoderma for effective management of stem rot in groundnut.
Best Scientist Award by ICAR- AICRPDr K.D. Mungra, Associate Research Scientist, JAU, Jamnagar was selected for Best Scientist Award (2017- 18) by ICAR-All India Coordinated Research
Project on Pearl Millet, Jodhpur and Society for Millet Research (ICARIndian Institute of Millet Research), Hyderabad for its outstanding performance in the area of quality work and publications made during the year 2017-18 for pearl millet improvement.
Dr Balraj Singh, VC of Agriculture University, Jodhpur presented him the award during the event of a 53rd Annual group meeting of ICARAICRP
on Pearl millet during 23-24 Mar. 2018.
MAHARASHTRA ANIMAL AND FISHERY SCIENCES UNIVERSITY, NAGPURState level Krishi Gurav PurskarState level Krishi Gurav Purskar, was awarded to Dr Mukund Kadam, for his significant contribution in Scientific Poultry farming for livelihood development in Vidharbah region of Maharashtra.

Award for Best Article on Canine Reproduction and BreedingDr A.D. Patil, Assistant Professor, Department of Animal Reproduction, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, NVC, Nagpur received, ISACP award for the “Best article on canine
reproduction and breeding” in Indian Journal of Canine Practice-2017.
First prize in ‘Avishkar- 2017’ to Dr. P.R. BalageDr P.R. Balage, M.V.Sc scholar from Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, COVAS, Parbhani, bagged first prize in 12th Maharashtra State level Research Convention ‘AVISHKAR – 2017’; it was held at Mahatma Puhle Krishi Vidyapeth, Rahuri from 15 - 17 Jan. 2018. Dr Balge presented a research case on “A novel surgical approach for the bilateral contracted tendon in calves” in the research convention. The recipient is awarded a trophy, certificate and cash prize of Rs 5000 with fellowship for the next 2 years. He also brought the Champions trophy to the university.
