College of Fisheries, Agartala The CAU, Imphal organized 3 day Regional Agric-Fair, 2017-18 (5-7 Nov. 2017) at College of Fisheries, Agartala, (Tripura). The theme of the Fair was "Integrated Farming for Doubling of Farm Income". Shri Shankar Prasad Datta, Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha, Tripura West, graced the function as Chief Guest and emphasised on the country's potential in terms of its resources and pointed out the need for mending the gap between indigenous knowledge and the modern technological tools. Padma Bhushan, Dr R. B. Singh, the Chancellor of CAU, Imphal, congratulated the university in achieving new heights through its performance in academics, research and extension as one of the best agricultural universities in the country. Prof. M. Premjit Singh, Vice-Chancellor of the university, Imphal, pointed that the north-east region with acidic soil, irrigation problems and small land- holding can rely much on integrated farming system to sustain the sector in long term, and cited the examples of the successful entrepreneurs.

inaugurating PG Girls' Hostel The Fair was attended by large numbers of farmers (4397 in number) across the north-eastern states, and officials from various related Agriculture & allied line departments, academic and research institutes, KVKs, banking sectors, private companies, NGOs/SHGs and agripreneuers. Var ious governmental and non-governmental organizations, as well as entrepreneurs showcased their farmer-friendly technologies, success stories, innovative ideas and products in 42 exhibition stalls. The fair was unique as it has addressed the role of women in agriculture, and farmer-scientist interaction session. Some of the striking queries included regional suitability of fish species and livestock breeds, fish-disease outbreak, utilization of green-manure crops in integrated farming, problem of bird flu, de-worming in pigs and cattle, about agri- entrepreneurship, poultry farming, and training needs etc. Prior to the inauguration of thie Agri Fair, Shri Shankar Prasad Datta, Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha, Tripura West, inaugurated the newly constructed building of Postgraduate Girls' Hostel of College of Fisheries, Central

Speaking on the closing day, Shri Aghore Debbarma, Minister of Agriculture, Tribal Welfare and AnimalResource Development, Government of Tripura and Chief Guest of the Function mentioned the need for convergence of government approach, scientific contribution and interest of farmers and need for farmer-friendly policies on agriculture inputs.
