Dr. A. S. Nanda joins as VC, GADVASU, Ludhiana

Dr. A. S. Nanda
Dr Amarjit Singh Nanda joined as VC of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana on 18th Fsb. 2015. Dr Nanda, a farmer Professor of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics and founder Director of Research, was presently working as VC of Nanaji Deshmukh University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Jabalpur, (M.P.). He also served as Animal Husbandry Commissioner, Government of India,(an Additional Secretary rank in the Central Government), from 2010 to 2013. Bom in a small village Kanjali, in dist. Kapurthaia, he had meritorious academic record. After his graduation and masters in Animal Reproduction from RAU, Ludhiana, he completed his Fellow of Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons from Sweden in 1983 and Ph. D. from the U.K. in 1989, He worked as Regional Expert on Animal Production at Food and Agriculture Organization, Internationa! Atomic Energy Agency headquarters atVienna, (Austria), and as Visiting Professor in Hiroshima University, Japan, and in University of Sau Poio, (Brazil). As Consultant, Dr Nanda visited more than 35 countries. As Head of Department and as Director far Centre of Advanced Studies in Veterinary Gynecology and Reproduction, he gave leadership to applied research in animal reproduction. Dr Nanda published more than 200 publications in journals of national and international repute.

Dr CJ. Dangaria, joins as VC, NAU, Navsari

Dr. C. J. Dangaria
Dr. C.J. Dangaria joined as VC, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari, on 13 Jan. 2015 for a tenure of 5 years. Bom on 5 May 1954, native of Jamnagar, (Gujarat), he did his Ph.D. in Plant Breeding and Genetics from U.A.S., Dharwad (Karnataka) with Senior Research Fellowship of the ICAR, New Delhi, during 1993. He began his career from Main Castor Research Station at erstwhile GAU, Sardarkrushlrtagar (Dantiwada) on 9 May 1979 and worked in different capacities He was Director of Research and Dean P.G. Studies, JAU, Junagadh. He possesses 35 years of experience in research, education, extension and administration as Unit Heads/Head of offices.<

Dr Dangaria published 27 research papers in international journals, 37 in national journals, and 22 In Symposia and seminars etc, He also published 12 book/booidets/documents and 68 popular articles in vernacular language as wel as 42 recommendations including varieties for farmers. He released 18 varieties (in team work), especially in oilseed crops-castor and pearl millet for the farmers. He also received 13 awards from prestigious institutions/organizations for his significant and excellent contributions In research, education and extension education services in the erstwhile GAU, Sartiarkrushinagar and JAU, Junagadh.

Prof. (Dr) S. Thilagar joins m VC, TNVASU, Chennai

Prof. (Dr) Sundarajan Thilagar joined as VC, TNUVAS, Chennai on 10 Dec. 2014. Bom in a village T. Aianguiam Slvagarrgal district, he hails from an agricultural family. He completed his school studies in Tiruppuvanbam and earned B.V.Sc. (1978) and M.V.Sc. (Surgery) (1983) from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. He did Ph.D. from Tami Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (1993) and became Fellow of Indian Society of Veterinary Surgery (1999). He served as academician for 33 years including Dean of College in 1980. As faculty member, Dr Thiiagar worked in various capacities. He was elevated as Professor of Surgery in 1994 and served as Head, Department of Clinics, Veterinary University Peripheral Hospital, Madhavaram (Chennai). He was instrumental in developing infrastructural facilities in both the hospitals. Later ha worked as Professor and Head, Department of Clinic, MVC, Chennai (1999-2003) and worked as Professor of Surgery at University, Putra (Malaysia) till (2008). After returning from Malaysia, he worked as Professor and Head, VUPH, Madhavaram; and Department of Clinics, Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, Madras Veterinary College Chennai. He worked as Controller of Examinations of TANUVAS (1 June 2010 to 26 Juiy 2011) and as Dean, Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Veterinary Education and Research, Puducherry (27 Juiy 2011 to 26 July 2014) and acted as Joint Convener of Admission Committee of Puducherry (2012,2013,2014).

He published more than 100 research articles both in national and international journals, authored 4 books, 9 manual and many booklets. He received Best Teacher Award of the university (1995) and also Tamil Nadu Scientist Award of Government of Tamil Nadu (1998).

Dr P.M. Saiimath joins as VC, UAS, Raichur

Dr Prakash Mruthunjaya Saiimath joins as VC, UAS, Raichur on 7 Nov. 2014. He was bom on 28 Feb. 1953 at Karur village (of RanebennurTaluk of the present Havery District in Karnataka). Ha did M.Sc. (Genetics and Plant Breeding), from College of Agriculture, Dharwad of UAS Bangalore and bagged gold medal during 1975.
He did Ph.D. from IARI, New Delhi, in Genetics and Plant Breeding during 1980, securing gold medal. The Commonwealth Fellowship, he did Post-doctoral degree in Plant Breeding from Wye College, University of London, the UK during 1988-89.
His career, as a researcher, began on 28 Dec. 1977 as S-1 scientist at IARI in Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, where he worked for 7 years. He became Senior Scientist at the IARI on 1 July 1984 and worked for 11 yearn. On 27 Nov. 1995, he joined as Professor & Head, Department of Genetics & Plant Breeding, at Dharwad Agriculture College, UAS, Dharwad.


Dr Saiimath received CGlAR's King Baudouin Award, (2002), Dr R.B. Ekbote National Award, (2002), Best Poster-Presentation Award (2009), Best Research Partnership Award (2010), and Best AICRP Chickpea Volunteer Award, (2011 -12). He received toe NAAS fellowship in 2014. He developed 31 varieties of chickpea, cotton, black-gram, sesame, rice, soybean, pigeon-pea, green-gram, oowpea, niger and sorghum. He travelled extensively abroad and visited several countries like the USA, the UK, the Philippines, Malaysia, Syria and Thailand on various professional assignments. He is serving as chairman or member of 13 professional societies. He guided 16 PhD. students, 28 M.Sc. students and more than 200 students across disciplines as member. He published 320 research papers in journals of national and international repute, 165 conference papers along with 2 text books and S book chapters.
He was selected Director of Instructions of Post-graduate Studies (2006) of UAS, Dharwad, served tor about 2 years and Director of Research (28 April 2008). He served as Special Officer at Shlmoga, where (30 Nov. 2011), he served for a span of three years and was appointed as the second VC to University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur on 7 Nov. 2014 for tenure of 4 years.

Dr H.Shivanna joins as VC, UAS, Bengaluru

Dr H. Shivanna, Dean (Agri) assumed the charge of Vice-Chancellor, University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangaiuru on 24 Jan 2015. Dr H. Shivanna was bom in Bugudanahalli village of Tumkur District on 15 Feb 1953, He completed B.Sc. (Hort) from UAS, Bangaiuru in 1977; M.Sc. (Agri) in Ganefics and Plant Breeding from UAS, Dharwad in 1989 and Ph.D.in Life Sciences (Biotechnology) from Kuvempu University, Shivamogga in 2002. He started his career as Research Assistant in Sorghum Scheme at MRS, Dharwad during toe year 1977, promoted as Assistant Sorghum Breeder during the year 1983 and served as Plant Scientist from 1992. He has worked as Professor and Head, Dept, of Genetics and Plant Breeding, College of Agriculture, Shivamogga and Professor and Head, Dept of Forestry and Environmental Sciences, GKVK from 2004 and Chief Scientific Officer (Plant Pathology) at GKVK, Dr Shivanna served as Dean (PGS), Director of Research and Dean (Agri) from 2008, Totally, he has 38 years of vast Experience in Agricultural Education and Research. He has guided three Ph.D. students
His main areas of research were Breeding of improved sorghum varieties and developed six sorghum varieties and three sorghum hybrids; and worked on Bio feel research. He is instrumental in mobilizing Rs. 37.09 crores for Bio feel Research and Rs 4.00 crores for Improving education and also to Improve research farms in toe University. Besides, he has played pivotal rote in institution building while holding various administrative posts.
Dr Shivanna published 100 research papers, 45 research notes and three books. He is the recipient of Best Research Worker Award -1988; Rashtriya Gaurav Award-2010; Achievers Award -2010; Best Citizens of India Award - 2011; Priyadarshini Indira Gandhi Award - 2011 and Environmental Award - 2012.
