As a consequence
of the division of Gujarat Agricultural University into four new
Universities, the Navsari Agricultural University has been
formed on 1-5-2005. NAU encompasses the districts of Valsad,
Navsari, Dang, Surat, Bharuch and Narmada of south Gujarat. The
University provides education upto the Ph.D level in
Agriculture, Horticulture and Forestry. The University has
research schemes spread over 13 centres in different
Agro-climate zones, Emphasis is given to varietals improvement
programme in rice, Sorghum, sugarcane, cotton, pigeon pea, mango
and hill millet crops. Important areas of concern are soil
reclamation through drainage management and post harvest
technology in mango, sapota and vegetables. Its objectives are
to teach and train students in agriculture and allied sciences
and to conduct research and seek solutions to emerging problems
in Agriculture, Horticulture, forestry, and veterinary sciences.
It also aims to transfer new technology to farmers and
agricultural organizations through extension education and to
provide diverse technical services in agricultural and allied
