Brief profile of Maharashtra Animal and Fishery

The Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University is established cm 17th November, 2000 as a third Veterinary University in the Country. The headquarter of the University is located at Nagpur in Vidarbha. It is a centrally located place famous for oranges hence is also known as a "Orange City". The University is located on lush green Seminary Hills, whish has its own scenic beauty. The University is about 7 km, away from Railway Station and about 15 kms away from the Air port. Being the centrally located place, it is well connected with rail and air routes with most of the inland metro cities.

The University has been established with an objective to minimize the regional imbalance through over all Livestock, Dairy and Fishery Development to bring the prosperity to the State in general and to the rural farming people in particular, by raising their standard of living. The main motto of the University Is to enhance the production of milk, meat, wool, eggs, meat and their byproducts, followed by critical disease surveillance and forecasting, disease diagnostic, proper hue of treatment, generation of new food technologies for wholesome meat and milk products value added food products of animal origin, with optimum hygiene and safety to fulfill the protein requirement of the society.

The University is steered by Dr. A. T. Sherikar, the first Vice-chancellor of the Veterinary University in the State, who is a personality with optimum dynamism, innovatives and with a dream to elevate the University to the global level.

There are seven constituent colleges of the University located at Nagpur, Mumbai, Parbhani, Udgir, Shirwal and Akola imparting veterinary education and one at Warud enganged in teaching Dairy Technology.

The University has been awarded recognition by the reputed organizations like Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi, University Grants Commission, New Delhi and Veterinary Council of India, New Delhi. This University has been given membership by Association of Indian Universities and also become part of Indian Agricultural Universities Association
