Vishwavidyalaya Evam Go Anusandhan
Sansthan, Mathura come into existence on Oct.25, 2001, by an Act of
Govt, of Uttar Pradesh (Act No. 27 of 2001).
Brij area is known since time immemorial for Lord Krishna and its
animal wealth, particularly cows. There are large number of
Gaushalas in and around Mathura having hundreds and thousands of
cows. The whole of Brij Kshetra is famous for its milk and milk
products (doodh, dahi, maklian, pera etc.). Recognizing the
importance of livestock of this area, the erstwhile U.P. College of
Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry was established in Mathura
by Govt. of U.P. in 1947, It was the first Veterinary College in
Asia to confer the degree in Veterinary Sciences. Ever since the
establishment of this College, it has contributed significantly not
only in terms of number of graduates and post-graduates of high
scholastic order, but also quality research of national and
distinction of having its alumni holding high positions in India and
abroad as teachers, research workers, policy makers, consultants and
administrators.
In the year 1975, this College was made a constituent College of
newly established C.S. Azad University of Agriculture and
Technology, Kanpur.
However, keeping in view the requirement of trained and competent
manpower in the field of Veterinary Science, Animal Husbandry,
Fisheries and other allied disciplines and also to give a fillip to
research on different aspects of cattle production, Govt. of Uttar
Pradesh established U.P. Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Pashu Chikitsa
Vigyanvishwavidyalaya Evam Go-Anusandhan Sansthan, Mathura the
fourth Veterinary University in the country and the Veterinary
College, Mathura become the first constituent College of the
University. The University is located on the Mathura - Agra road and
is about 5 km from Mathura Junction railway station and 4 km from
new bus stand. The main campus of the University is spread over a
vast land area of 782.32 acres in Mathura Cantt and about 1400 acres
at Madhurikund, about 20 km from the main campus.
The objectives and
mandate of the University is :
(i) To impart quality education in Veterinary and allied sciences
(ii) To undertake need-based and basic research; and
To provide
extension services to disseminate the research findings and
knowledge to farmers and livestock owners.
The new Veterinary
University', in addition to the Colleges of Veterinary Science and
Animal Husbandry, will have the following faculties too in the near
future, which would be started in a phased manner:
(a) College of Fisheries
(b) College of Biotechnology
(c) College of Livestock Products Technology
(d) College of x\nimal Industry and Business Management
(e) College of Postgraduate studies
The Go-Anusandhan Sansthan is a unique feature of this University
and first of its kind in India. It would provide latest facilities
for research on various aspects related to cattle, its products and
by-products.
The first contituent college of the University is Veterinary
College, which is one of the premier Veterinary Colleges of India.
The College caters to the needs of trained manpower for the State of
U.P. as well as other States by carrying out teaching, research and
extension education programmes pertaining to livestock production
and health.
The College offers the following programmes of study:
(i)
B.V.Sc. & A.H. (5 year degree programme) as per Veterinary Council
of India standards.
(ii) M.V.Sc. (2 year degree programme)
(iii) Ph.D. (Research work)
The Post-graduate study leading to award of M.V.Sc. and Ph.D.
degrees is conducted trough traditional system of education and
degrees are awarded in 15 subjects. College has the following

(xi) Livestock Production and Management

(xv) Veterinary Clinical Medicine, Ethics and Jurisprudence
(xvi) Veterinary Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine
(xvii) Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension
(xviii) Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex
(xix) Poultry Science
All the Department are having highly qualified Faculty Members and
good laboratory facilities.
