The KU is working for welfare of all the living beings through its multi-faceted academic, research and extension-education programmes, with focus on animals, milk and fisheries, to uplift the standard of life of the farmers and people at large.
The university at present runs the following programmes through its constituent and affiliated institutes.

From this academic year 2015-16 the university will start post-graduate programmes in Animal Genetics and Breeding, Livestock Production and Management, Veterinary Gynaecology, Animal Nutrition, Dairy Microbiology, Dairy Chemistry and Aquaculture.
In accordance with Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, 2014 (Central Act No.6 of 2014) the state of Telangana was formed on 2 June 2014. Accordingly, Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University was bifurcated into two operational entities, and the Telangana part established as PJTSAU.
The PJTSAU has 5 constituent colleges, 3 in Agriculture and one each in Agricultural Engineering and Technology, and in Home Science. In addition, there are nine polytechnics (7 in Agriculture and 1 each in Seed Technology and Agricultural Engineering). It has 16 agricultural research stations, including three Regional Agricultural Research Stations, 9 District Agricultural Advisory and Transfer of Technology Centres, and 6 Krishi Vigyan Kendras spread across the state. The Mandate of the university is to produce trained human resource through teaching, generate agricultural technologies through research, and its dissemination in the famers through extension education. Dr Praveen Rao Velchala, the VC, joined the university on 7 Nov. 2014.
The college administration is under the control of Associate Deans, whereas Regional Agricultural Research Stations are under Associate Directors of Research. The DAATTCs and KVKs are headed by Co-ordinators and Programme Co-ordinators respectively. The individual research station is headed by a senior scientist, designated Head of the station.
The PJTSAU offers Bachelors degree (UG) programmes in Agriculture, Home Science, Agricultural Engineering and Technology and Commercial Agriculture and Business Management.
In addition, it offers Master's degree (PG) programmes in 24 disciplines, and Doctoral Degree (Ph.D.) programmes in 17 disciplines of Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering and Technology, and Home Science Faculties. It also offers 2-year Diploma in Agriculture and Seed Technology in local Telugu language; 3-year Diploma in Agricultural Engineering; and 1-year PG Diploma in Nutritional Therapy, and Food Analysis and Quality Control in English medium to train mid-level para-technical workers.
Faculty: It has 3 faculties, viz. Faculty of Fisheries Sciences; Faculty of Basic Sciences; and Faculty of Fisheries Engineering.
Schools: It runs 5 schools, viz. School of Aquaculture, School of Harvest and Post-Harvest Technology, School of Fisheries Resources and Environment Management, and School of Fisheries Information and Social Sciences.
Research Centres: There are 5 research centres in the state, viz. Fisheries Research and Extension, Centre, Madhavaram, Chennai; Centre for Marine Fin Fish Culture, Mandapam, Ramnad District, Tilapia Research Centre, Barur, Krishnagiri District, Shrimp Brood Bank, Neendakara, B, Kanyakumari District; and Centre for Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhavanisagar, Erode District.
Academic programmes: It runs 4 programmes, viz. Bachelor of Fisheries Science; Master of Fisheries Science (10 disciplines); Doctor of Philosophy (7 disciplines); and Bachelor of Engineering in Fisheries Engineering (from 2015-16).
Research activities in various fields of fisheries are operated at the 3 colleges or institutes and 5 research centers. Peripheral research centres have been established for undertaking research activities in specific fields like ornamental fish culture, aquaculture system, tilapia farming, fresh-water aquaculture, marine finfish culture, and shrimp-brood development. The university has established state-of-art laboratory facilities for Sea-food safety and quality assurance, Aquaculture, Fisheries biotechnology, Aquatic animal health and Environment management, besides old library and fisheries museum (operating since 40 years). Currently the university operates externally funded projects costing Rs 19.35 crores.
The Extension activities and outreach programmes are undertaken at the colleges or institutes and 5 research centres of the university. The various extension activities include conduction of certificate courses, skill-development programmes, vocational training programmes, participation in exhibitions, demonstrations, farm-advisory services and bringing out extension publications for promoting fisheries.
National Seminar on Agroforestry
The Agroforestry group in the College of Agriculture of the university organized a national seminar on 'Holistic development of agroforestry: Potential and policy issues' on 13 Feb. 2015. In the inaugural session of the seminar experts from International Centre for Research in Agroforestry, New Delhi; Central Agroforestry Research Institute, Jhansi; SHIATS, Allahabad; The ICAR as well as from Pantnagar university shared their views with the participants. Dr P.K. Nair, distinguished Professor and Nehru Fulbright Fellow from the USA, delivered the keynote address
Workshop-cum-Seminar on Floriculture
A national workshop-cum-seminar on 'Precision farming: a boon for flower industry' was organized by Precision Farming Development Centre of Department of Horticulture, College of Agriculture during 2-3 Mar. 2015. Total 165 farmers from various districts of Uttarakhand, officials of Horticulture Department of Uttarakhand Government and students of the college participated in the workshop. Resource persons from the ICAR institutes, PFDC, industry, etc. were invited to enlighten the participants
National Science Day at NSS Cell
as the significance of scientific applications in the daily life for the welfare of human-beings. A Senior Scientist, Punjab Remote Sensing Centre, Ludhiana delivered a guest lecture on “Application of remote sensing and geographical information system”. Dr S.S. Thousands of farmers visited the university stall everyday to see the exhibits. The farmers showed keen interest in “Hardhenu” breed of cattle developed by it. On this occasion, Maj. Gen. (Dr) Shrikant, VC, informed that “Hardhenu” breed of cattle was produced by mixing the blood from HF, Haryana and Sahiwal breeds of cattle, and its daily milk yield is more than 35 litres. It can easily withstand high temperature and is highly disease resistant.
Dr Sanjeev Balyan, Central State Agriculture Minister, and Shri O.P. Dhankar, Minister of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Haryana Government appreciated the university stall. Shri D.S. Dhesi, Chief Secretary, Haryana Government, along with Dr Mahavir Singh, Principal Secretary, Animal Husbandry, Government of Haryana; Shri Dhanpat Singh, Principal Secretary, (Agriculture), Government of Haryana, visited the stalls and were informed about the programmes being run for the farmers.

The meeting was organised by Dr Zhang Yuming, DG, Agricultural Department of Yunnan Province, People's Republic of China, in collaboration with Dr Jef Hammond and Dr Peter Kirkland, Elizabeth Macarthur Agricultural Institute, Australia; Dr Peter Martin, Pirbright Institute, Pirbright, the UK and Dr Li Huachun, DG of Yunnan Tropical and Subtropical Animal Virus Diseases Laboratory, Yunnan Animal Science and Veterinary Institute, P.R. China. It was hosted by Agricultural Department of Yunnan Province.
Dr Sushila Maan presented the Indian perspective of research on these pathogens. She informed the delegates about the achievements, laboratory facilities, capabilities and technical expertise of faculty.

Total 67 experts from India and abroad addressed these technical sessions, attended by more than 800 delegates from all over India.
Dr C.D. Mayee, former Chairman, Agricultural Scientist Recruitment Board, was the chief guest of the inaugural function, presided by Dr T.A. More. The guest of honour was Dr Shivajirao Deshmukh, DG, Vasantrao Sugar Institure, Pune.
Dr Shivajirao Deshmukh said that we are self-sufficient in foodgrain production due to different technologies developed by agricultural universities and positive response of the farmers.
Dr Tukaram More, VC, MPKV, Rahuri said that the agricultural universities face lots of problems while conducting research, hence it is necessary to provide self- initiation rights to the agricultural universities and colleges.
10th Annual Convocation
Dr H.S. Gupta, chief guest of the ceremony, in his convocation address laid stress on the role of agriculture sector in nutritional security, need of doubling the water-use efficiency, improving the productivity of pulse and oilseed crops, threat of climate change, quality-seed production, strengthening of tissue-culture facilities, development of farm women-friendly technologies and minimizing the pre- and post- harvest losses. H.E. Shri O.P. Kohli, President of the function, congratulated the students for successful completion of various degree programmes and advised them to serve the nation with holistic approach for all-round development. During the convocation various degrees were conferred to total 378 students, including 185 B.Sc. students, 157 M.Sc. students and 36 Ph.D. students. Moreover, 29 medals including 11 medals for PG studies and 18 medals for UG studies were awarded to 11 girls and 8 boys student for excelling in the academics. .

The On-Farm Centre, Kendrapara operating under AICRP on Integrated Farming Systems, of the university was adjudged the “Best on farm centre” at the national level, and was awarded a certificate of Appreciation by the ICAR-IIFSR, Modipuram in the 31st Biennial Workshop of the Project held at TNAU, Coimbatore during 22-24 Dec. 2014.

Visit of Delegates from WLEDP, the USA
A 13-member delegation of Wyoming Leadership Education and Development Programme, the USA visited the university on 15 Jan. 2015 to have a broader view of Punjab agriculture. Apart from discussing various achievements of the PAU, interaction also took place in the mutual areas of interest such as creating a highly motivated cadre of agricultural leaders, farmers' fairs, water saving technologies etc.
Visit of Delegates from University of Nebraska, Lincoln, the USA
To gain an in-depth understanding of Punjab agriculture, a 30-member delegation from University of Nebraska, Lincoln, the USA visited the university on
16 Jan. 2015. The visit was a part of their Nebraska Leadership Education and Action Development Programme, headed by Dr Terry Hejny, Director, Nebraska LEAD Programme, Nebraska Agricultural Leadership Council. The delegation interacted with the senior officials and the scientists from the University who familiarized them with the genesis and research programmes of the PAU.
Dr S. Vijay Kumar, IAS, Secretary to Government of Tamil Nadu, Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries declared institution of 6 endowments for academic achievements.
Total 76 graduates were conferred the degrees at the convocation (1 Ph.D, 31 Master of Fisheries Science and 44 Bachelor of Fisheries Science), degrees would be sent to the 23 students through post. Dr K. Ratna Kumar, Registrar read out the names of 23 medal winners who were awarded for academic excellence and performance.

Safety and Quality Control, and Environmental Hygiene. Dr Simranpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor, won “Dr S.P. Singh Best Research Paper Award” for her paper on Group A rotaviruses in humans and animals. Dr Abhishek Gaurav won “Dr V.N. Bachhil Young Scientist award” for his Ph.D. research work on antibiotic residues. Dr Lokesh K.M., Ph.D. scholar, bagged the best poster award for the research work conducted on Japanese encephalitis.
Dr J.P.S. Gill was re-elected as Vice- President of Indian Association of Veterinary Public Health Specialists for tenure of 3 years. Two Assistant Professors of the department; Dr Simranpreet Kaur and Dr J.S. Bedi, were elected as Members of Executive Committee of IAVPHS.
Honour to Dr Harimohan Saxena
The novel superagglutination test developed by Dr Saxena and his team addresses the two major problems of false negative and false positive results obtained with the conventional slide or plate agglutination tests, and the kits based on them. The innovative concepts behind the superagglutination test are applicable not only to brucellosis but to other infectious diseases of animals and humans like Salmonellosis, AIDS etc also.

Dr Md Hafeezuddin Silver Jubilee Award
Dr S.A. Gaikwad and Dr P.L. Dhande, Department of Veterinary Anatomy, Bombay Veterinary College, Mumbai, received Dr Md Hafeezuddin Silver Jubilee medal and award for Best Paper in Anatomy of Wild and Zoo Animals for the paper entitled “Innovative application of taxidermy technique in management of of dead natural forest resources”. These were presented to them during the XXIX Annual Convention and National Symposium, held at Durg (Chhattisgarh) during 11-13 Feb. 2015.

Fellow, IAVA Award to Dr Gaikwad Dr S.A. Gaikwad, Associate Professor of Veterinary Anatomy, Bombay Veterinary College, Mumbai was honoured with Fellow, Indian Association of Veterinary Anatomists on 11 Feb. 2015 during the XXIX Annual Convention and National Symposium, held at Durg (Chhattisgarh).
National Award to Dr Anil Sharma
Dr Anil Sharma, Assistant Director (TV), Centre for Communication and International Linkages, was selected for the national award for making outstanding efforts in science and technology communication through innovative and traditional methods during the year 2014. The Department of Science and Technology, Government of India selected Dr Sharma for this award, which consists of Rs 1 lakh cash, a memento and a citation.

producing the world's first cloned buffalo calves, besides other achievements in genomics of early embryonic development under his mentorship. As Director of NAARM, Dr Goswami made significant contributions to Human Resource Development and Capacity Development initiatives of the ICAR. During his long research and academic career he won several awards including Jawaharlal Nehru Award, Dr G. B. Singh Memorial Award Dr M. S. Swaminathan Award and Fellowship of National Academy of Dairy Science (India), as well as the FAO, UNDP Fellowships, and Visiting Scientist Fellowships etc. Dr Goswami has visited several countries including Nepal, Ireland, England, the USA, Russia on different academic assignments.
